Introducing, Lady Catherine Lenore

Phew! So it's March already!? It has proven to be a very busy year so far and I feel like this blog has been unduly neglected. Perhaps launching a blog, Etsy store and YouTube channel at the same time was a little ambitious. Anyway, I can at least share with you my latest doll.

Introducing - Lady Catherine Lenore.

Lady Catherine is a wealthy, late 18th Century heiress. She inherited her fortune at a young age which has allowed her to life the most opulent of lifestyles. It has also meant that, unlike the majority of her peers, she has not seen the need to marry. Her ravishing beauty has drawn suitors from as far as the New World, however, none has managed to win her affections.

Residing at her family estate in the south of England, the Lenore manor has become a beacon for all manner of artists and writers, musicians and dancers - many of whom adore her as their muse.

She has recently returned from her Grand Tour which was extravagant, even for the time. During her travels she collected exotic souvenirs - Egyptian statues and mummified remains, Greek frescoes pried right from the walls of the old cities, jewels, silks, spices and incense - which were shipped back to England.

She has now returned to her family home where she lives, surrounded by her treasures and friends.

I had such a great time creating this Lady, I was even a bit sad to pack her up and send her to her new home. 

Lady Cat started life as Monster High's Catrine De Mew (Scaris).

Customs - January 2015

My latest job - Rainbow Frankie ^_~

Her owner has requested the rainbow re-root as well ad removal of all her stitches (except the ones on her neck). These are my favourite kind of commissions - bringing to life what my client has already envisioned. Don't get me wrong, I love doing my own designs - but there is something enormously satisfying about a collaboration...and nothing beats hearing "Oh my God, he/she is even better than I imagined!"

I will be tracking the progress of all commissions so owners can see how their beauty (or beast!) is coming along.

Step one - bye bye stitches! Done the 'old fashioned' way with sandpaper. NEVER use acetone on a MH body. It will start to pretty much melt he plastic almost instantly



Next up - hair removal ^o^

DIY Dolly Clothes Rack

 Happy New Year all!

Christmas is over and it's time to get busy! Actually, I have been crazy busy... that's why it's been so light on the blog front... but anyways...

 

I thought I would share this little project. I found a little stand alone mirror with a draw and thought it would make the perfect little clothes rack for one of my girls. It is so pretty, with a mother-of-pearl detail and room for accessories and shoes....





The mirror was screwed into it's stand on either side with ornamental pegs. They were easily unscrewed and put aside for some future project.

I measured up the distance between each side of the stand and cut a piece of dowel to fit. The dowel was painted brown to match the rest of the piece and sealed to ensure the paint doesn't chip off, even when supporting little clothes on wire hangers.

The wooden dowel was soft enough to be push through the hole about a  1/2 centimetre extra so I could fit either end into the rack.

So easy!!!
Now I just need something to hang on it! I'm thinking hangers.
I made this little contraption out of a scrap of wood and 3 nails. I used nails with little heads so the wire doesn't catch on them.
I got the coloured wire from the craft store.
**Make sure you measure between your dolly's shoulders to determine the width of your hangers.**

 

These were actually quite easy to make. It did take a little persuasion to made them the right shape and no two will ever be exactly the same but that's kinda what I like about them ^-^.

 

 

And there you go! One tiny coat hanger. Now repeat!

Garage Sale Score!

Late last night I noticed an online ad for a garage sale with a pic of the some of the coolest vintage Barbie furniture. I was so there. Of course, the chick who walked down the driveway ahead of me grabbed the little blue table and chairs with matching sideboard before I could reach the table they were sat on. Devastated. But I really should stop complaining as I still walked away with some pretty good scores ^-^.

The whole haul for less than $20!

 

A couple of Barbie brand vintage blazers and a gorgeous Skipper swing coat for my Blythe girls!

 A pink fridge and working plumbing in the kitchen!

New bathroom decor in the only colour a girl needs 

And maybe the cotolest - and most unique item found was this weird looking vintage Micky!

Monster High Porter Geiss Review- Haunted Manster!

So excited about this new Manster! From the Monster High haunted line, Porter Geiss, son of a poltergeist.

This is a really beautiful doll! I really like how the MH ghosts are depicted using the chain motif (in a nod to Dickens?) and clear limbs.
Something I didn't actually end up saying on the review is how Porter differs in this respect from the ghosts. Rather than clear plastic, his arms are made out of an opaque rubber or vinyl. Tres cool!
The other thing I didn't say - because I didn't realise until after I had posted the video - is that Porter's sturdy boots and articulated ankle joints actually allow him to stand on his own! Even though he comes with a beautiful 'chain' stand this is an awesome feature!
Could he get any cooler?
